See all posts written by Johanna Payton Karl Lagerfeld took his inspiration from the skies for Chanel’s couture Spring/Summer collection which featured an elaborate life-size jumbo jet reconstruction, complete with luggage lockers, walkways and a Champagne trolley. The luxury jet set experience was set deep within the Grand Palais, with the theatrical Chanel plane taking five days to construct.
The 164 foot catwalk was filled with floaty silhouettes featuring embroidered silk in cool blues and greys whilst the signature Chanel skirt suits were given a retro airhostess twist with a distinctive 1960s glamour feel. Various shades of blue were used for the pieces, which included traditional tweeds and wispy chiffon. Wide collars in pastel colours contrasted with balloon sleeved dresses in dazzling petrol blue. Speaking backstage in the reconstructed holographic cockpit, Lagerfeld, in his traditional shades and powdered hair, stated that blue was used because it’s an optimistic color.
