Change In The Air For All Saints
Champagne and macaroons in the afternoon may be a distraction, but at the All Saints AW12 press preview, nothing could mess with my mission to check out all the edgy new styles from one of my favourite brands.
Come autumn, All Saints have got some real treats in store with a focus on quality…
Clarks Originals get remixed for AW12
Last week I was invited to a fashion industry press day where lots of brands were showcased – and I was quite surprised by the new collection that caught my eye. Clarks has really pushed the boat out with its autumn/winter Originals design and created a range of footwear that is cool and contemporary with a big, fat nod to tradition.
Bang Bang! Pistol Panties launch pop-up shop at Selfridges
When it comes to swimwear, I have a real soft spot for 50s-style designs; that’s probably why Pistol Panties appeals to me so much. Designed to make you feel “like a superstar”, this range is not for the faint-hearted; think bold vintage florals, plunging necklines and itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikinis.

London Fashion Week Exhibition 2012
On Monday, Style Compare’s Steph, Amy and Jo were invited to London Fashion Week’s prestigious Exhibition at Somerset House. The girls had a behind the scenes glimpse at some of the hottest styles, colours and trends for Autumn/Winter 2012. The Exhibition showcases over 200 designer collections, with emerging talent alongside established brands.
The Topshop sponsored NEWGEN exhibit, which includes collections by Holly Fulton, David Koma and Michael van der Ham, was truly amazing, and some of the best ethical fashion was on display too, in the Monsoon-sponsored Estethica gallery. With its dazzling selection of accessories and clothing we’ll all be wearing later in the year, the LFW Exhibition is a fashionista’s haven. And the Style Compare team took lots of snapshots to show you why…

Selfridges For Summer
It may be freezing outside, but yesterday I threw off my big faux fur jacket to explore a very exciting preview in the warmth of Selfridges’ flagship store on Oxford Street. 2012 is going to be a biggie, with the Olympic Games and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to look forward to, and Selfridges will build-up the excitement with a range of fun, funky and fashionable products to commemorate the special summer.
Even if you’re not mad into sports – or the Royal Family – you’ve still got to sneak a peek at the beautiful fashion, homeware, accessories, food and beauty products Selfridges has in store. The Big British Bang season starts on May 4th and runs until late August, and it is packed with everything from an Emma Bridgewater Diamond Jubilee teapot to Pearly Queen inspired six inch stilettos by Nicholas Kirkwood.
Ted Baker In Bloom
Wednesday January 11th 2012 was a very special day for the Ted Baker brand. For the first time, Ted’s annual “team day”, where the loyal staff get together for a very exclusive fashion show and bonding experience, was opened-up to a limited guest list of fashion insiders, journalists and bloggers for the very first time.
I was chuffed to bits to be invited to sit on the front row for Style Compare, and as a long-time fan of Ted’s beautifully British style, couldn’t wait to see what he had in store for the sunny months ahead.
Masters of Style at Somerset House
Masters of Style; Celebrating the Stories Behind Italian Fashion, is a newly opened exhibition at Somerset House, which visually documents the journey of six Italian fashion houses. In homage to Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, Gucci, Missoni and Prada the exhibition features campaigns from their archives, illustrating how successfully each house has continually communicated their new visual ideas while also conveying their integral brand DNA and essence over the decades.
An authority on fashion and journalist supremo, Colin McDowell, was asked to curate the exhibition that coincides with the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. I’ve heard rumblings of disappointment that there were no clothes, to me, clothes on hanger or mannequin speak little volume compared to the creatively conceived, carefully planned and impeccably executed fashion campaigns. Expect to see the finest eye-catching images created by the era’s best, most sought after photographers, stylists, set designers and featuring the best models and designer fashion.
The large empty space of the Embankment Galleries is segregated by 6 individual gauze concertina’s with each housing the images of one of the six Italian brands. Take a visual journey beginning with Gucci’s stong women surrounded by besotted males, moving to the futuristic gloss of Armani’s androgynous models, then to D&G’s combination of Italian polish and Milanese tradition to the sexy kookyness of Prada and concluding with Missoni’s wholesome focus on family.
For anyone interested in the industry this exhibition offers a very interesting insight and couldn’t be more timely as the September issues featuring all the new campaigns are a mere month away!
Masters of Style: Celebrating the Stories Behind Italian Fashion is at Somerset House in the Embankment Galleries until 14th August 2011.
